    1. Introduction

    Bilingual Pages ("we", "our", or "us") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you use the Bilingual Pages mobile application and website (the "Service").

    2. Information We Collect

    We may collect the following types of information:

    • Account information: When you sign in with Apple or Google, we may receive information such as your email address, display name, authentication identifier, and profile information provided by the sign-in provider.
    • App and reading data: We may store information such as your saved books, reading progress, selected language preferences, translation direction, vocabulary entries, favorite translations, and other app settings.
    • User-imported content: If you import your own EPUB files, the app may store the imported book file, book metadata, cover image, reading progress, and related translation history locally on your device. On iOS, if iCloud synchronization is enabled, supported imported book data may also be stored in your iCloud account. On Android, imported EPUB files and their full content are currently stored locally on your device and are not synchronized through Firestore.
    • Translation data: When you request a translation, the selected sentence or text fragment may be sent to a third-party translation provider, such as Google Translate, in order to provide the translation.
    • Subscription data: We use third-party subscription management services, such as RevenueCat, to verify subscription status and manage access to premium features. We may receive subscription status, product identifiers, purchase history, entitlement status, and transaction identifiers. Payment card details are processed by Apple App Store or Google Play, and we do not collect or store your credit card information.
    • Synchronization data: If synchronization is enabled, we may store supported app data in cloud services associated with your platform and account. On iOS this may include iCloud data. On Android this may include Firestore data associated with your authenticated Google account, such as reading progress, saved books, vocabulary entries, language preferences, theme preferences, and other supported app state.
    • Device and technical information: We may collect or receive technical information such as device type, operating system, app version, push notification token, and basic diagnostic information needed to operate, secure, and improve the Service.

    3. How We Use Your Information

    We use information to:

    • provide and personalize the reading and language learning experience;
    • save your books, reading progress, vocabulary, and app preferences;
    • provide sentence translation and translation history;
    • synchronize supported app data across your devices when synchronization is enabled;
    • manage subscriptions and verify access to premium features;
    • send service-related notifications, if you enable notifications;
    • improve app performance, reliability, and user experience;
    • detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, security issues, or technical problems;
    • comply with legal obligations.

    4. Sign-In Providers

    The Service may allow you to sign in using Apple or Google. Your use of these sign-in providers is also subject to their own privacy policies and terms. We use the authentication information provided by Apple or Google only to create and manage your account in Bilingual Pages and, where applicable, to support synchronization across devices.

    On Android, sign-in may be required to enable synchronization. A paid subscription may still be purchased through Google Play without signing in.

    5. Subscriptions and Payments

    Paid subscriptions are processed by Apple App Store or Google Play. We do not collect or store your payment card information.

    We use RevenueCat to help manage subscription status and premium access. RevenueCat may process subscription-related data such as purchase history, product identifiers, transaction identifiers, and entitlement status.

    6. Translation Providers

    To provide instant translation features, the text you choose to translate may be sent to a third-party translation service, such as Google Translate. These providers process the text only as needed to return the requested translation, subject to their own terms and privacy practices.

    Please avoid translating text that contains sensitive personal information.

    7. Synchronization

    iOS Synchronization

    On iOS, Bilingual Pages may use iCloud Documents to synchronize supported app data across your Apple devices if you enable synchronization.

    This may include imported EPUB files, book covers, reading progress, book metadata, translation history, vocabulary entries, and app state required for synchronization.

    Data stored in iCloud is associated with your Apple ID and is handled according to Apple's iCloud terms and privacy practices. You can disable synchronization in the app settings.

    Android Synchronization

    On Android, Bilingual Pages may use Firebase services, including Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore, to synchronize supported app data across your Android devices if you enable synchronization and sign in with Google.

    At this time, Android synchronization may include reading progress, saved books, vocabulary entries, selected language, theme preference, free translation usage counters, and other supported app state.

    At this time, imported EPUB files and their full content are not synchronized on Android through Firestore and remain stored locally on your device unless otherwise stated in a future update.

    8. Data Sharing

    We do not sell your personal data.

    We may share limited information with:

    • service providers that help us operate the Service, such as authentication, subscription management, translation, cloud, and notification providers;
    • Apple or Google for sign-in, payments, subscriptions, and platform services;
    • authorities, regulators, or other parties when required by law or necessary to protect our rights, users, or the Service.

    9. Data Retention

    We retain your information for as long as needed to provide the Service, maintain your account, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

    Some data, such as imported books, reading progress, vocabulary, and cached translations, may remain stored locally on your device until you delete it, delete the app, clear app data, or remove the relevant content.

    If iCloud synchronization is enabled on iOS, synchronized data may remain in your iCloud account until removed through the app, iCloud, or your Apple ID settings.

    If Android synchronization is enabled, supported synchronized data may remain in Firebase services associated with your account until removed through the app, by deleting your account, or by contacting us where applicable.

    10. Account Deletion

    You may request deletion of your account and associated data from within the app or by contacting us.

    Deleting your account does not automatically cancel an active subscription. Subscriptions must be managed and cancelled through your App Store or Google Play account settings.

    11. Your Rights

    Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or export your personal data.

    12. Children's Privacy

    The Service is not directed to children under 13, or under 16 where required by applicable law. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to remove it.

    13. Security

    We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit where appropriate. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

    14. International Transfers

    Your information may be processed in countries other than your country of residence. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international data transfers.

    15. Changes to This Privacy Policy

    We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above. If changes are significant, we may notify you through the Service or by other appropriate means.
