in, on, at для часу
at + точний час
At вживаємо з точним часом і кількома усталеними моментами: at 8 o’clock, at noon, at night, at Christmas, at the moment.
- School starts at 8 o’clock.
- Owls fly at night.
- The film starts at 6 pm.
- Let’s meet at noon.
on + дні та дати
On вживаємо з днями тижня, датами й особливими днями: on Monday, on 5 May, on my birthday, on Christmas Day.
- The shop opens on Monday.

- We have a party on my birthday.
- The shops are closed on Christmas Day.
in + довші проміжки
In вживаємо з місяцями, роками, порами року, частинами доби й десятиліттями: in July, in 2010, in winter, in the morning. А ще «in ten minutes» = через десять хвилин.

in, on, at для місця
in = всередині
In — коли щось усередині простору чи території: in the box, in the kitchen, in the car, in London, in bed.

on = на поверхні
On — для поверхні чи лінії, а також для автобусів, потягів і літаків: on the chair, on the wall, on page 10, on the bus, on TV.

at = у точці
At — для точки або місця, де щось відбувається: at the door, at the bus stop, at school, at work, at home.

a + приголосний звук
A ставимо перед одним неконкретним предметом, якщо слово починається з приголосного звуку: a dog, a new bike, a teacher.

an + голосний звук
An ставимо перед голосним звуком: an apple, an elephant, an old house, an idea.

Важить звук, а не літера
Слухайте перший звук: an hour, an honest man (h не вимовляється), але a university, a uniform, a one-way ticket (вони починаються зі звуків [j] або [w]).

the + єдине у своєму роді
The вживаємо з тим, що існує в одному екземплярі: the sun, the moon, the sky, the sea, the internet.
- The sun is very hot.

the + відомо, про що мова
The вживаємо, коли обом співрозмовникам зрозуміло, про який саме предмет ідеться: close the door; I have a cat — the cat is black.

the + best, first, only, same
Найвищий ступінь порівняння, порядкові first/second і слова only та same вимагають the: the best player, the first day, the only child, the same street.
- She is the best player in the team.

Play the guitar, play the piano, go to the cinema, listen to the radio.

Питання про прийменники та артиклі
Чим відрізняються in, on і at, коли йдеться про час?
At — найменша точка (at 8 o’clock), on — день (on Monday), in — довший проміжок (in July, in 2010, in winter). Уявіть піраміду: at → on → in.
Як правильно: «in the morning» чи «on the morning»?
In the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening — але at night. Якщо ви називаєте день, ставте on: on Monday morning, on Saturday night.
Коли ставити a, а коли an?
Усе залежить від першого звуку, а не від літери: an apple, an hour (h не вимовляється), але a university і a one-way ticket.
Коли потрібен the?
